The Seattle Coalition for Family & Relationship Equity (SCFRE) is committed to transforming societal perceptions and
legal frameworks to embrace and protect polyamorous domestic partnerships and other diverse family and relationship
structures.
Our purpose is rooted in the following specific objectives:
- Legal Recognition: Advocate for municipal and state laws that formally recognize non-monogamous
partnerships and diverse family and relationship arrangements, ensuring all individuals are afforded the same
legal rights and privileges as conventional family units.
- Anti-Discrimination Measures: Develop and promote policies that prevent discrimination based
on relationship structure or family configuration. This includes advocating for protections in housing, employment,
healthcare, and other critical areas of life.
- Educational Initiatives: Launch comprehensive educational campaigns aimed at both the public and
private sectors to increase understanding of polyamory, non-monogamy, and other forms of diverse relationships.
These initiatives will focus on dismantling myths, reducing stigma, and highlighting the value of diverse family and
relationship dynamics.
- Community Outreach and Support: Establish strong networks of support and communication among individuals
in diverse relationships. Facilitate workshops, support groups, and seminars to provide resources, legal guidance, and
support to polyamorous relationships, chosen families, and other forms of domestic mutual care networks.
- Partnerships for Change: Collaborate with businesses, government entities, and other community organizations to
foster inclusive practices that recognize and support diverse family structures. This will include training programs, policy
consultations, and inclusivity audits to ensure that all individuals, relationships, and families are respected and valued.
- Public Advocacy: Serve as a vocal and active presence in civic discussions about chosen family, relationship
recognition, and anti-discrimination legislation. Engage with the media, participate in public forums, and work alongside
policymakers to ensure the needs and rights of non-monogamous, polyamorous, and diverse families are addressed.
Through these efforts, SCFRE strives to create a more inclusive, equitable society where all forms of families and relationships are acknowledged and protected, contributing to a broader understanding and acceptance of diversity within our communities.
